Start a support group
Both by giving and getting support, participants in a "family and friends" support group become more confident, decisive, clear-thinking and emotionally resilient. If you can't find a support group to join, you can follow the example of others who have started their own. Which pathway appeals?

  • Grassroots? Be the individual who puts out a notice inviting others in your situation to meet. If counselling is offered at a publicly funded treatment centre, the professional staff there may help you start and run the group.
  • Parents Forever? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver operate this program. Here's how to bring it to your community.
  • Parents in Action? You can download the free manual by clicking the button on the home page of this site (left margin). The guide advises how to start and how to run a Parents in Action group.

Put the "fun" in "fundraiser"
If you have fundraising experience, or would like to get it, you could help us by holding a fundraising event for FGTA. Contact us with your ideas.

If you are the family member of an addicted person, joining FGTA can be a life-changing assertion of dignity and pride that strengthens you forever. If you have no children of your own, allying yourself with FGTA through membership is an equally clear demonstration of strength.

Educate others by joining
Your membership makes our Society's voice stronger every time we make the case for public funding of addiction treatment resources in British Columbia. Within your community, your voice as an FGTA member could make the case for parent support groups and other resources.
